Scar Tissue Therapy

Scars (new and old) can affect more than just your skin — they can influence movement, sensation, and confidence. Scar tissue can create tightness, restrict mobility, or cause discomfort, and in some cases affect posture or surrounding tissues.

At our Bishop’s Stortford clinic, we use the Lymphatouch device, which delivers gentle vibration to stimulate tissue healing, reduce tightness, and improve circulation. This allows us to target scar tissue safely and effectively while supporting optimal recovery.

We treat scars of all types for both men and women, including:

  • C-section and other abdominal surgery scars
  • Orthopaedic scars (knee, hip, joint replacements)
  • Breast surgery scars, including mastectomy and cosmetic procedures
  • Cardiac and thoracic surgery scars
  • Trauma or injury scars
  • Scars from cancer surgery or radiation therapy

With this tailored approach, our therapy helps you regain comfort, mobility, and confidence while promoting smoother, healthier scar tissue.

Scar Tissue Therapy – FAQ’s

Your first session will last 45 minutes. We’ll discuss your medical history, the scar’s background, and your goals. The physiotherapist will assess the scar and surrounding tissues, explain the treatment approach, and begin gentle therapy to improve mobility, reduce tightness, and support healing.

The number of sessions depends on your scar, its age, and your goals. Some people notice improvement quickly, but we usually recommend a series of treatments to fully restore mobility and comfort.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated. This ensures the therapist can safely and effectively work on your scar.

Coverage varies between insurers. Please check with your provider before booking, and make sure your authorisation code covers physiotherapy for scar management. If not, you may need to pay privately.
