Physiotherapy Services in Bishops Stortford

Based at the Alpha Clinic in Hockerill Court, Bishops Stortford I work with a wide range of issues. From a slight twinge to severe pain, musculoskeletal conditions are common and can be in one or multiple areas in your body. They can be brought on by a traumatic incident, post-operatively or they can have been niggling for many months to years.

Physiotherapy can help reduce pain, restore movement and correct function within the muscles, joints, nerves, ligaments and tendons. The most common problems are:

  • Joint pain, such as back, knee, neck, shoulder, hip and groin, foot and ankle

  • Sports injuries, such as ACL ruptures, ankle ligament sprains, dislocations and fractures

  • Headaches, such as stress tension headaches

  • Postural related injuries

These conditions can affect anyone, so physiotherapy is suitable for everyone of any age and gender.

Informed by the latest evidence based practice and backed by robust clinical reasoning, my individualised and focused approach means that you will receive the optimal treatment you need to resolve the problem. Additionally, I empower my patients to stay well, by providing education on how to prevent symptoms recurring in the near and long term future.

What to Expect at your Initial Physiotherapy Session

During the hour long initial assessment, I will take a thorough medical history discussing your current symptoms.  We will then observe your movements and carry out tests to the different structures involved to find the cause of the pain and the process that has caused the problem.

It is important that we discuss your desired outcome ie sitting at work without pain, return to marathon running or ability to pick up your child without pain. This will consolidate our treatment plan and how we are to manage your current symptoms and alleviate your pain.

Providing you the most likely diagnosis, I can offer a range of treatments that are proven to be effective. Treatments often consist of a mixture of exercises, hands on therapy and education, which may include, mobilisation and manipulation techniques, taping, acupuncture, pilates, massage and movement patterning to treat biomechanical causes of the problem.

After the initial session I will provide you with a written report indicating recovery times and goal posts for return to activities / sport.

Future follow-up sessions are important to aid the recovery process. These sessions are shorter and focus to support you on your recovery journey. Activities during the session, such as correctly demonstrating and progressing exercises,  as well as hands on treatment, aim to make sure you are happy and on track with your rehabilitation.

Unlike other forms of treatment, physiotherapy takes a deep dive into the problem. Making the time to find out what is going on and getting to the root causes of the problem. Physiotherapy gives you the confidence to take control of your own recovery and wellness.
